📝 こと nominalizes the clause
と quotes speech and thought

With 言う (say) and 思う (think).

💬 Examples
「行く」と言いました。
'Iku' to iimashita.
(He) said, 'I'll go.'
📝 と marks the quote
明日は雨だと思います。
Ashita wa ame da to omoimasu.
(I) think it will rain tomorrow.
📝 plain form + と思う
Embedded questions use か (どうか)

Indirect questions.

💬 Examples
何時に来るか分かりません。
Nan-ji ni kuru ka wakarimasen.
(I) don't know what time (he) is coming.
📝 Embedded question + か
行くかどうか分からない。
Iku ka dō ka wakaranai.
(I) don't know whether (I) will go.
📝 かどうか = whether or not
