Imperfective vs perfective

Most verbs come in aspect pairs

imperfective (process) and perfective (completed).

The core distinction.

Я читав книгу.
Ya chytav knyhu.
I was reading a book.
📝 Imperfective past = process
Я прочитав книгу.
Ya prochytav knyhu.
I read (finished) the book.
📝 Perfective past = completed
Perfective verbs have no present tense

Their 'present' form is future in meaning.
