Word Order — SVO

No inflection; word order carries meaning

Basic word order is Subject-Verb-Object

Vietnamese is strictly SVO; words never change form for grammar.

I drink coffee.

Nouns, verbs and adjectives have one unchanging form for all uses.

💬 Examples
Tôi đi. / Anh đi. / Họ đi.
I go. / He goes. / They go.
📝 đi is identical for all persons
Hôm qua tôi đi. / Ngày mai tôi đi.
Yesterday I went. / Tomorrow I go.
📝 đi unchanged; time words mark tense
Modifiers generally follow the head noun

Adjectives and relative clauses come after the noun they modify.

💬 Examples
ngôi nhà đẹp
beautiful house
📝 đẹp (beautiful) follows nhà (house)
quyển sách hay này
this interesting book
