Verbs — No Conjugation

Verbs are invariable; context marks tense

Verbs never change form

The same verb form is used for all persons, tenses, and numbers.

💬 Examples
Tôi ăn. / Em ăn. / Họ ăn.
I eat. / You eat. / They eat.
📝 ăn (eat) unchanged for all subjects
Hôm qua tôi ăn phở.
Yesterday I ate pho.

là (to be) is the main copula

là links subject to noun or noun phrase; not used before adjectives.

Tôi là sinh viên.
I am a student.

Anh ấy đẹp trai.
He is handsome.

Stative verbs function like adjectives

Many verbs of state (muốn, thích, biết) need no copula.

Tôi thích nhạc.
I like music.
