Conditional & Subjunctive

skulle + infinitive and vore

skulle + infinitive = would (conditional)

skulle (past of ska) + bare infinitive expresses would.

📊 Conditional patterns
Type Pattern Example
simple conditional skulle + inf. Jag skulle resa.
polite request skulle + vilja + inf. Jag skulle vilja ha...
hypothetical (real) om + present, ska + inf. Om det regnar, ska vi stanna.
hypothetical (unreal) om + past, skulle + inf. Om jag hade tid, skulle jag hjälpa.
💬 Examples
Jag skulle vilja ha kaffe.
I would like (to have) coffee.
📝 skulle + vilja + ha = polite would like
Det skulle vara kul.
That would be fun.
📝 skulle + vara = would be
Unreal condition: om + past → skulle + infinitive

The past tense in the om-clause signals unreality, not past time.

💬 Examples
Om jag hade pengar, skulle jag resa mer.
If I had money, I would travel more.
📝 hade = unreal past in om-clause
Om hon visste, skulle hon berätta.
If she knew, she would tell.
📝 past tense visste = hypothetical
vore is the subjunctive of vara

vore = were/would be; used in formal, literary or hypothetical contexts.

💬 Examples
Det vore bra om du kom.
It would be good if you came.
📝 vore = subjunctive of vara
Om jag vore rik...
If I were rich...
📝 vore in hypothetical om-clause
