Past continuous: was/were + -ing

I was reading when she called / They were playing all afternoon

Past continuous + when / while

While I was sleeping, the phone rang / I was eating when he arrived

used to + base verb

I used to live in Paris / She used to smoke / We used to be close friends

didn't use to

I didn't use to like vegetables (but now I do) / He didn't use to exercise

Future continuous: will be + -ing

I will be working at 8 AM / She will be travelling next week

Near future: present continuous

I'm meeting her tomorrow / We're flying on Friday — firm arrangement

Future plans: be going to

I'm going to visit my parents / She's going to start a new job — planned

will — spontaneous decisions

Oh, I'll carry that for you! / I'll have the salad, please — decided now

Predictions: will vs going to

I think it will rain (opinion) / Look — it's going to rain (evidence)

Time clauses with future

When I get home, I will call you — NOT "when I will get home"
