Giving Reasons
Explaining causes and purposes.
כִּי יָרַד גֶּשֶׁם נִשְׁאַרְנוּ בַּבַּיִת.
Because it was raining we stayed home.
ki yarad geshem nishanu babayit.
הָיִיתִי עָיֵף אַז הָלַכְתִּי לִישֹׁן מוּקְדָּם.
I was tired so I slept early.
hayiti ayef az halachti lishon mukdam.
הוּא עָבַד קָשֶׁה כְּדֵי לְהַצְלִיחַ.
He worked hard so he could succeed.
hu avad kashe kedei lehatzliach.
כִּי הָיָה מְאֻחָר לָקַחְנוּ מוֹנִית.
Because it was late we took a taxi.
ki haya me'uchar lakachnu monit.
אֲנִי לוֹמֵד עִבְרִית כִּי אֲנִי מַאֲמִין בָּהּ.
I learn Hebrew because I believe in it.
ani lomed ivrit ki ani ma'amin ba.
הוּא לֹא בָּא כִּי הָיְתָה לוֹ עֲבוֹדָה.
He did not come because he had work.
hu lo ba ki hayta lo avoda.
יָצָאנוּ מוּקְדָּם כְּדֵי לֹא לְאַחֵר.
We left early so we would not be late.
yatzanu mukdam kedei lo le'acher.
לֹא קָנִיתִי אֶת זֶה כִּי זֶה הָיָה יָקָר.
I did not buy it because it was expensive.
lo kaniti et ze ki ze haya yakar.
אֲנִי מִתְאַמֵּן כְּדֵי לִהְיוֹת בָּרִיא.
I exercise to stay healthy.
ani mit'amen kedei lihyot bari.
הִיא הָיְתָה שְׂמֵחָה כִּי עָבְרָה אֶת הַבְּחִינָה.
She was happy because she had passed.
hi hayta smecha ki avra et habchina.
כִּי הָיָה קַר לָבַשְׁתִּי מְעִיל.
Because I was cold I put on a coat.
ki haya kar lavashti me'il.
לָכֵן הֶחְלַטְתִּי לְהִשָּׁאֵר.
That is why I decided to stay.
lachen hechliti lehisha'er.
