Definite objects and dative subjects

को marks specific / animate objects

A definite or human object takes को.

💬 Examples
मैंने राम को देखा
maiṃne rām ko dekhā
I saw Ram
📝 को with a person object
मैंने किताब देखी
maiṃne kitāb dekhī
I saw a/the book
📝 No को here (inanimate)
को also marks the indirect object

'To someone'.

💬 Examples
मैंने उसको पैसे दिए
maiṃne usko paise die
I gave him money
📝 को = to (recipient)
माँ ने बच्चे को खाना दिया
māṃ ne bachche ko khānā diyā
Mother gave the child food
📝 Indirect object को
को for dative-subject experiences

Feelings and needs use को + the experiencer.

💬 Examples
मुझे भूख लगी है
mujhe bhūkh lagī hai
I am hungry
📝 मुझे = मुझ + को (dative experiencer)
उसको हिंदी आती है
usko hindī ātī hai
He/She knows Hindi
📝 'Knowing' uses को
