The Subjunctive (المنصوب)

Accusative mood of the verb

Certain particles require the subjunctive

After أنْ، لنْ، كي، حتى، لـِ the present verb takes the subjunctive, ending in ـَ.

💬 Examples
أُريدُ أن أكتُبَ
uriidu an aktuba
I want to write
📝 أن + subjunctive ـَ
جِئتُ كي أتَعَلَّمَ
ji'tu kay ata'allama
I came in order to learn
📝 كي of purpose
Subjunctive drops the final ن of plurals

In the five forms ending in ن, that ن is dropped in the subjunctive.

💬 Examples
لن يَكتُبوا
lan yaktubuu
they will not write
📝 ـون → ـوا
أن تَكتُبي
an taktubii
that you (f) write
📝 ـين → ـي
لـِ of purpose

لـِ ('in order to') before a verb triggers the subjunctive.

💬 Examples
دَرَستُ لِأنجَحَ
darastu li-anjaḥa
I studied in order to succeed
📝 لـ + subjunctive
عَمِلَ لِيَعيشَ
'amila li-ya'iisha
he worked in order to live
